There is no such thing as white balance it just what your eyes want you to see.
So cameras don’t know there is.... no white balance you have to set it yourself.

My video analysis for this week

https://vimeo.com/65268704

The reason why I decided to use this video is because of the shallow depth of field used, I like how the sharp focus brings you into the moment and makes you think your there.
This video caught my attention
By the first clip used, as I have a fascination with island settings and sunrises.
I like the scene with the bike and how the camera has focused on the movement. The blurred background, and then tracking went well although I thought faded out a little to fast.

I like the use of close up shot used and gave you a feeling of been there.

My first interview video

My first video Interview

This was shot in the kitchen of my place, this video was shot in the evening, I went for a kitchen environment so that you didn't have to look at your every day sit down interview which may not of worked out as well as I thought it would, as you can see I didn't quite have enough light in the kitchen, and the background appears far too dark.

The reason I shot in the kitchen was to give my interview a more personal look in to my interviewee, as he is a very uplifted and relatable person, who is full of life, and I wanted that to show.
This was video was shot on a tripod, and I had to adjust the setting, letting in a lot of light just so you could actually see the kitchen So I did have a high ISO,  I did forget to record my settings. Although will do in my next video. I did set up the camera DSL60D to have a shallow depth of field so you can focus on the interviewee, and not the background.
Because it was my first interview video, I wanted to leave all my mistakes in, so I could see where I need to improve.

As you can see a lot of improvements are needed.
My video work was far to dark, and my audio taught me never record while there is background noise thats going to drown out my interviewees voice.
I needed a lot more footage than what I actually had, and should of recorded his voice separately.

I remixed the music audio into the interview only where I thought it was needed and have since learnt how to adjust the volume levels.

As you can see I had a lot of trouble matching up the video with audio, and left it how it was just so you could see where I went wrong.
Room for improvement from the lighting to the sizzling of the pan to the audio matching video work.

My video mixing

My video mixing made this clip look more like an ad than a actual video clip I applied the audio track and then adjusted the audio, I applied the music track and then added key frames to suit the video.

Today we worked with Key frames and Audio Mixing I learnt a lot and this was my final result

Creatitivity 1

Creative writing our group came up with this piece of poetry.

WE SAY YOU SAY AS FEARS GROW
THROUGH CLOUDS OF WAR, QUESTIONS GROW
POINTING TOWARDS A DESPERATE FIGHT FOR LIFE
THE BACKLASH TRAUMATIZED FAMILIES VICTIMS STRUGGLE NEVER STOPS
THE GOOD SOUL FIGHTS
FOR GLIMPSES OF THE PATH TO PEACE
OUT TO STING, A BALANCING ACT
ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL A TEMPORARY LIFETIME.

Editing and creating my Interview

I am leaving my Interview as much as I can in the original format, because it is my first Interview I would like to show all the mistakes I made and how I learnt different skills by making those mistakes.

Not quite finished yet I will upload as soon as possible.

Memories and my videos analysed

Where I view my memories, I am always trying to re-capture my memories almost to the point where I would like each memory to be re-created as the same moment.
The point I wanted to get across with my videos on memory, was a sense of fun, and innocence, I decided to use the colour in my work the way I did because I wanted to express a clear crisp memory almost as though you could reach out and grab it.
I blurred the flowers so you know that the thought could fade and its not as fresh as when it happened, although I cut in and brought the flower into focus so you know that moment although faded can be re-created.

Looking back on the bridge scene was supposed to be fast, almost to a flickering image, because I didn't like crossing that bridge when I was younger.

The shots of mud was to represent as a child putting on our gumboots and walking along in the mud,
the shot was filmed fast as though that is a memory I would like to forget.

Finally the shots sitting under trees is how I still have a clear memory of sitting staring up at the clouds and thinking if I do that now I can instantly be taken back to that place it doesn't even have to be the same tree.

The shot of me from behind is a way of showing how I am looking back into my life.
The shot of the eye is to re-present looking through my eyes, although re-presenting today because its my sons eye and I want him to see what I used too.

The quickness and short shots are how brief that moment feels now.

Video 4 for this weeks video analysis

http://mashable.com/2014/08/06/slow-motion-new-york-city/

Like this style of video, tells a story even though it only plays music, it clearly shows a different side of New York through the eyes of a Photographer and video artist.
A lot of close up shots all done in slow motion I like how action is frozen in time.
I like the use of D.O.F and S.D.F
The slow motion effect brings the video alive and gives it a life of its own.
This is a direction I might like to look in to as I like the way it looks like bringing a photo to life.

Creativity one John PULU

On the 4th we had a guest speaker by the name of John Pulu from TVNZ one
I really enjoyed Johns Seminar, A journalist from Tangata Pasifika From Tonga
Migrated to New Zealand with his family at the age of 9 the Tongan journalist, first gained experience
at Otahuhu College, where he attended school.
John had work experience at TVNZ and this is where he decided he was
interested in Television.

He graduated from A.U.T in 2010 from a course on Communications and Television degree

He has worked with music artists like  J boog and Aradnah Patel, he has traveled extensively, but the stories he likes to cover the most are stories with meaning and in helping pacific Islanders to share their stories with the world.

We learnt from john how they search for stories , pitch a story , go out on a shoot and construct the shoot, warn the interviewee, and how they pre-script their stories, the stories and video work are edited and then await the producer to approve the footage, and then it appears on T.V .

We watched a clip on you-tube of John at the food festival in Auckland because he said those were the interviews he liked to do  and that they were very entertaining.  LOL! @ my terrible writing think I noted down all of the things that weren't important.

He later caught me running out across the car park not long after, because, I didn't stay till the end. "he said to me was I that bad"?, I felt so embarrassed and ashamed that my lame excuse really just sounded like a lie. lol !  "um no I had to leave my rides here". which actually was the truth.  Although may of wasted your time telling me the important parts cause all I heard was food, punched by a bodyguard and your name. p.s sorry haha!

Moving Image 3

The video I chose for my critique this week is

The pleasure of

https://vimeo.com/48236494

I like the use of camera work on this video opening with a ice cream melting in time-lapse and the use of close ups and shadow work to introduce the video captivated me from the start.
The shallow depth of field used is really well done I also like the movement and hand held camera is bought in at the right time.
I really like the use of blurred camera movement. And noticed the colour correction in this video the audio matches perfectly and does make you think of how all these sounds are taken for granted.

Really enjoyed this piece of video.

Video 1 analysed

https://vimeo.com/82113014

This is a video that I found inspiring I have a fascination with time lapse and the beauty of it, I know it is just a lot of filming without work put in to it I just really like the end result.
I found this video work uplifting and moving just from the camera work.
I also like the positive image that the audio gives.

My Memories Vids

This is a short video, I made of the zoo entrance and how I always remembered as a child pulling into the zoo more than the actual zoo itself.

My 2min vids for Memories working on 60D EOS
my video work

This video I made of memories at this certain park I had in my childhood I remembered how we used to cross the bridge and spend time sitting under the trees making daisy chains, I used to go there with my granddad and have a lot of treasured memories there.

Working with different IOS settings and different styles of focus

Not putting IOS up to high, and just trying to get a deep depth of field and shallow, using a bit of movement and getting used to aperture, IOS and experimenting.
